This sweet YA sports romance is the first book by Julie L. Spencer I've read. I'm a sucker for a friends-to-more story, and Jordan and Lara drew me in right from the start. The dual POV worked well for me, I enjoyed seeing the story develop from both perspectives.

While the story touches on a sensitive subject like sexual assault and its implications, Julie L. Spencer finds a good balance in her descriptions, conveying the seriousness and the emotional impact without going into gory detail. Kudos!
And while this topic is far from lighthearted and fluffy, the story itself is not overly dramatic or dark. In fact, it made me smile quite a lot. (And that dance scene? LE SWOON)

Overall, I liked the story and was quite happy with how it was resolved.
(And now I'd love to read Gil's story, pretty please, with sprinkles on top. :) …

Another cute and sweet YA romance!

For most of the story, I really liked Malina and Jackson, and I was rooting for them to figure their stuff out. Frankly, I was totally taken aback when both of them unpacked their blame throwers at the same time and just tried to make the other one responsible for their own shortcomings. Before, both had acted smarter than that, so I was really surprised by this.

Then again, I liked how they finally resolved their conflict and found their HEA.

Janci Patterson, Megan Walker: The Jenna Rollins Real Love Tour (Paperback, Independently Published, Independently published)

When Happily Ever After doesn't come easy...

I guess I needed my heart to get broken some more by Felix and Jenna... They both bring a lot of baggage into their new-found family, and not every problem has automatically disappeared the moment they got married.
Janci Patterson and Megan Walker deal with these issues in a way that feels realistic, but both Jenna and Felix do the best they can under the circumstances, which - after dragging me through a pit of despair or two along the way - left me ultimately hopeful. (Well, this is a romance, so there must be a HFN / HEA. It's the law!)

Also: Have I mentioned how much I adore Ty? (Can't wait to read more about him!)

Still, if you are looking for a light and fluffy read, this here isn't it. (There are other books in this series that will tick …

This story was super cute, sweet, and funny, and it made me smile a lot. I really liked "The Lia Bailey" and Pierce, and it was fun to see how they got to know each other, both online as well as IRL, and how they fell in like - and more. It was a lighthearted, low-drama read.
This was the first book I've read by Erin Fletcher, but I'm looking forward to reading more! (Tied Up In You is already on my e-reader, so... :) )

The swoon is dialed up to 11!

"Something about him always made her want to jump. Because deep down, she’d always believed he’d catch her."

I already fell in love with Sam and Griff in "Until We Meet Again," and it was just wonderful to finally see them get their HEA. And once again, Kait Nolan managed to melt my poor little heart into a puddle of swooned-out goo (grand-gesture FUBAR notwithstanding).

Can't wait for the next one in the series!

While this is the second book in the series, it's the first book by this author I've read, and it can be read as a standalone.
This story was right up my reading alley as I enjoy the best-friend's-sibling / sibling's-best-friend trope as well as fake relationship stories, and Quinn and Arie turned out to be a perfect match it was easy to root for.
I thoroughly enjoyed this cute, light-hearted story, it made me smile (and occasionally laugh out loud), and the "chemistry" lessons were absolutely swoon-worthy,
Towards the end, I found the story to be dragging a bit, when both Quinn and Arie suffered from a case of "just talk to each other, dagnabbit".

I'm definitely looking forward to reading more - both in this series and by this author in general.

4.5 / 5 cute, funny, and swoony stars

Though book #2 in the series, this can be read as a standalone. It's the first in the series I've read, but not my first book by this author. And while I'm usually not a big fan of the surprise pregnancy trope, I'm a fan of Christina Hovland's writing, so I was pretty confident going in that I would like this book. And I was not disappointed.

I liked Courtney fromt the get-go. I appreciate her no-nonsense, can-do attitude, but she's not super-human, and I truly fell in love with her in the scene where she learns that she's pregnant.
And Bax - I loved getting these glimpses at the human behind that rockstar facade.

Add to that plenty of ensemble shenanigans involving family (OMG, the moms!) and band members (and, of course, Babushka!), and you have a wonderful, swoony, laugh-out-loud, yet-tugging-at-those-heartstrings tale.

Cliffhanger, much?

When I started reading, I was not aware that this book only covers the first week of the exchange mentioned in the blurb. So this story ends at a point where nothing is resolved. Meh. (I'm not a fan of cliffhangers, YMMV.)

Also, there's a LOT of drama for such a short amount of time covered in the book, and it took me a while to warm up to Mallory and the boys (not Mohammad, though, he was an insta-like :) ).

The drama is strong in this one!

Once again, I can't help but fall in love with these characters; especially Nix is a force of nature, and her take-no-prisoners approach to life reminds me a bit of Tracie Bannister's "Izzy As Is".
While the rivalry of the two dance studios creates a nice Romeo-and-Juliet atmosphere and Vanessa is a nemesis that's oh so easy to hate, Nix's almost frantic search for reasons why Marcus might not want to be with her feels a bit over the top (yes, even for a book with this premise :) ) and superfluous.

Like all books in this series I've read so far, this story made me smile, (snort-)laugh out loud, and swoon - the chemistry between Nix and Marcus is off the charts! - and I'm (always!) looking forward to reading more from these authors.

Bonus points for setting part of this story …

Another new favorite! :)

I believe I mentioned that Foxhound Foes (book 3) was my new favorite of the series, but Billionaire Beagle is a very strong contender! Again, I feel right at home in the quirky small town of Maple Cove, and it's lovely to reconnect with some of my favorite quirky characters. Olive has shown time and again that she is a force to be reckoned with, and I really enjoyed following her on her journey from handcuffing herself to a bulldozer to falling in like (and eventually in love) with Xavier - who turns out to be a genuinely nice guy instead of the cardboard-cutout villain Olive would like to cast him as.

One of my favorite scenes is when "the girls" (Quinn, Sam, Vi, and Dubby) help Olive get ready for her is-this-a-date-or-a-business-meeting, and I appreciate Vi's offer/threat to take Xavier down if Olive needs her …

Ah, Felix... <3 He is breaking my heart - just like I knew he would even before I started reading this story. But he turns out to be a wonderful - if deeply flawed - hero, and the connection he has with Jenna is just swoon-worthy. And then, there's Ty: Jenna's son and force majeure and stealer of hearts.

Since the book deals with some tough subjects like drug addiction, for example, this is not the book for you if you are looking for a lighthearted, fluffy rom-com. Yes, there is romance, and there are plenty of funny and lighthearted moments, but both Jenna and Felix have a lot of baggage to deal with, so there is angst and drama, too.

“It’s different being away from everybody’s expectations. I can just be myself. And I want to be myself with you.”

le sigh
le swoon

This prequel novella is a wonderful teaser. Sam and Griff managed to steal a piece of my heart in record time, and I can't wait to see these two getting back together!

5/5 can't-wait-for-the-HEA stars!

Christina Hovland: April May Fall (2021, Entangled Publishing, LLC)

None

Over the top, messy, funny, heart-warming.

April May Fall made me smile (and occasionally snort-laugh), swoon, and managed to tug these ole heartstrings at the same time.
I enjoyed getting to know April and her slightly crazy posse, though I'll admit that Jack - at first - seemed a bit too perfect for my taste. But when chaos and hilarity ensued and the poor guy was so in over his head, he still tried to find the best way to help... Honestly, how could I not root for him?
Bonus points for April's circle of fiercely loyal and supportive girlfriends - everyone should have friends like Simone, Yelena, and Kitty (!) in their corner!
