A wonderful finale!

I adored Melody in "Chasing the Stars," and I am so happy that she finally got her own story. Best friends to more is one of my favorite tropes, and I appreciate that Mel and Steph not only have to figure out what this could mean for them, but how it would impact Jess, the third member of the Bestie Brigade, as well. (And that first kiss? swoon)

This is the third book in the series, and I love that Melanie Hooyenga totally "put the band back together" for this one, not only including Naomi, Hunter, and Theo, but Sage and Neb as well.
Like the two books before, this story is very much a team effort with plenty of well-meaning meddling by family and friends. Having everyone join in on this adventure is what makes it so special for me. And no, this is not …

Not what I expected - in a good way!

Disclaimer: I've never been a fan of the oops-baby trope, so I was skeptical if I was going to like this story as much as the others in the series.
Even though the story struck a different tone than the others in the series, I appreciate the way this topic was handled. YMMV.

Pure sunshine in book form!

Heart-warming. Heart-melting. Happy. Hot!

“Don’t take this the wrong way,” he said, still holding her wrists in his hands and looking directly into that gorgeous green and gold swirl, “But I am completely in love with you.”

Same, Dave. Same.
I fell in love with this book on the very first pages. Give or take another chapter or two, and I was a total goner for Sabine. And Dave. I loved everything about this story and it gave me ALL THE FEELS. (Yes, shouty caps. Sorry for that, but this is a Heidi book...)

Reading for a good cause? Count me in!

While I haven't read all the stories yet, I thoroughly enjoyed the humor and heart (no pun intended!) in Sylvie Stewart's meet cute "Playing by Heart," and I'm very much looking forward to reading more stories in the collection - a great opportunity to discover new-to-me authors.

"I could love you if you let me."

Le sigh. Le swoon! We're back in Crowder, Texas, and once again, Susannah Nix delivers an emotional roller coaster of a romance that runs the gamut from cute and funny (and sexy!) to heartbreaking.
Maggie and Ryan are both interesting, complex, and - usually ;) - mature characters, and I thoroughly enjoyed their banter and the fake-dating-turning-into-the-real-thing storyline. I loved getting to see them slowly lower their defenses and let each other in - until they (cough Ryan cough) didn't. But I really appreciated Maggie's approach to getting Ryan out of his self-imposed isolation and I loved how everything worked out at the end.

4.5/5 emotional-roller-coaster stars

reviewed Ghost Pirate Gambit by Jessie Kwak (Nanshe Chronicles, #1)

Jessie Kwak: Ghost Pirate Gambit (Paperback, Jessie Kwak Creative)

Haunted space stations? Puzzling totems? Cursed relics? No job's too bizarre for the crew of …

Totally my jam!

Having read Artemis City Shuffle first, I was intrigued by both Lasadi and Raj and their world, and Ghost Pirate Gambit did not disappoint. This first novel in the Nanshe Chronicles ticks so many of my favorite boxes: Not only does it start with heist gone sideways, it throws together a misfit crew of intriguing characters and sends them off on a wild space adventure ( ghost pirates! fights! subterfuge! booby traps!).

I found this tale wildly entertaining, and I loved getting to know each of these complex, flawed, and vulnerable characters. Not only did I enjoy their banter, but it was lovely to see them grow together as a team and learn to trust each other, even if everyone brought plenty of secrets and personal baggage to the table. Add to that the sloooow-burn attraction between Lasadi and Raj (I'm not going to call it a romance just yet …

"Because love is worth it, however long it lasts."

Oh, my heart! I don't even know where to begin... This story gave me ALL THE FEELS - I've been rooting for Rachel and Jonah even before this book started, and boy, did they mess it up before they finally got it right... But it was so worth it in the end!

It was wonderful to be back in Eden's Ridge and catch up with the rest of the Bad Boy Bakers and their families, too. I'm looking forward to reading more stories set in this world!

This was a fun and fast-paced - and slightly convoluted, maybe? - finale to the Space Janitor series. Overall, I had a lot of fun with these characters, although I'll admit that I can absolutely relate to Ty and Vanti's occasional frustration with their charge. (I mean, why can't Triana do just ONCE what the people whose literal job it is to keep her safe tell her to? How are they supposed to do their jobs properly when they get undermined at every turn?)

Welcome back to Starlight Harbor!

The story is cute and funny, but it packs quite an emotional punch (among the smiles and swoons and laughter, there may have been tears).

After the initial shenanigans with the kaput sleigh that serves as a catalyst for some forced proximity for our main couple, that part of the story - at least in my mind - took a bit of a backseat to the romance plot and the focus on Cam and Vi's relationship. (I'm not complaining - also, I might simply have a somewhat selective perception... YMMV.)

As always, the main characters are well developed, and they had a lot of backstory to sort through. Cam is probably one of the cinnamon-rollest heroes there ever were, and at times I felt frustrated with Vi's insistence at keeping him at arm's length (and then some). Despite my occasional frustration, I loved both Vi …

Ophelia + Xavier = XOXO, indeed! hearteyes

I reallyreally loved this story: it was equally funny, sweet, cringe-, and swoon-worthy. I adored Ophelia in all her impulsive glory and Xavier (truly one of the good guys), and I felt so bad for them when pretty much every one of their well-intentioned plans went so horribly, horribly wrong. (Which made the final resolution of that convoluted mess they managed to get themselves into all the sweeter. :) )

And while I might have been gnashing my teeth a tiny bit because I would have liked Ophelia and Xavier to get together a leeeettle bit sooner, Kathryn R. Biel's writing is excellent, as always. The setup for Ophelia's initial social media debacle, for example, is just... chef's kiss

I don't know if there are currently any plans, but but I would really love to read more rom-coms set in this world.

To be honest, it took me a while to warm up to Lauren, she just comes across as such a selfish brat at the beginning of the story. But I truly appreciated not only seeing her grow into her role as a teacher (teachers rock!), but especially how she grew to care - and fight! - for "her" Misfits.

I'm looking forward to reading more books in this world, both in this series as well as the Misfits YA series.
