A Great Review of US Property Law and the Philosophy of Ownership
4 Sterne
This is a great, accessible review of modern US property law and the legal and moral philosophies underlying that law. And it truly does go through essentially the entire gamut of property law here, from real estate to intellectual property to even human body parts. That analysis is extremely insightful, but unfortunately it's undercut by the very small amount of space devoted to how slavery and colonialism shaped those philosophies and laws. That is a huge gap given how central that history was and remains today. I also would've liked more cross cultural and international comparisons, as many of the notions of ownership explored here are not in fact universal values. That being said, you'll walk away from this book having a basic grasp of this area and also how profoundly law can change the meaning of ownership. Highly recommend
