A Devastating Analysis of a Colossal Failure in Ethical Lawyering
5 Sterne
This is an absolutely devastating, meticulous deconstruction of the ethical failures of those in the legal profession around the UK Post Office scandal and what it means about how the field should evolve. Richard reviews the scandal for the uninitiated, and it's a heartbreaking case that combines algorithmic obfuscation, business and legal ethical failings, and real human costs. This becomes a lens through which to unpack how the legal profession has lost its ethical compass, employing legal tools to achieve the client's ends no matter the actual legality or ethics of those ends. While the book is a bit light on concrete solutions, it provides a strong foundation for that necessary next step. Highly recommend
