Excellent start to this new spin-off series!

The first Juniper Ridge story features two main characters you might have met before, namely in "Mancandy Crush" (Vanessa) and Snowbound Squeeze (Dean).

“He’s an overbearing son-of-a-b**** but he’s good at his job. Also, we love him.”
Yes, we most certainly do... In some ways, control freak Dean reminds me a bit of James Bracelyn - which is not a bad thing since James is probably my favorite Bracelyn (if there is such a thing as a favorite Bracelyn, anyway).

“Never f--- with a woman who has a handbag the size of Alaska,” she snarls at Andrea. “Or a woman with zero f---- left to give.”
I wouldn't dream of messing (I paraphrase...) with Vanessa, as she is a great heroine, capable, strong, hilarious, and the perfect match for Dean.

But the character who not only stole the show but my heart is …

Kait Nolan: Wishful Romance Volume 4 (2020, Take The Leap Publishing)

I always enjoy returning to the small southern town of Wishful and its quirky inhabitants, and stories like those in this boxed set are why.

"You Were Meant For Me" is another wonderful addition to the Wishful series.
Mitch is a(nother) swoonworthy hero, fitting in really well with the other Wishful heroes I've met so far, and Tess is a likeable, relatable heroine.
A minor drawback for me was that Tess's personality is so much like Norah's, that - while it makes for an interesting dynamic between those two - it felt at times like a bit of a déjà-vu.
Countless bonus points, as pretty much always, for the Campbell clan, this wonderful, messy, brilliant, meddling bunch of "good people" who everyone would love to have in their corner.

"A Lot Like Christmas" is a wonderful (if a bit short-ish) addition to the Wishful series that has all the things …

I'll admit, it took me a little to warm up to both Milo and Jill, because they really can both behave like perfect jerks towards each other. But after that initial reluctance, I fell very much in serious like with the two of them.
The story has all the good stuff I expect from a Sylvie Stewart book - flawed, but likeable characters (really, they aren't that bad once you get to know them... ;) ), witty banter, heartbreaking as well as heart-melting moments, and a good dose of heat.
As an added bonus, it was fun to reconnect with Felicity, Ted, and Haley from "The Nerd Next Door".

This grand finale sums up everything I love about the Spotless series <3

While I am sad that the series is coming to an end, it's a truly grand finale, and my favorite characters are getting one hell of a send-off. I don't want to go into details, because spoilers, but this book is giving me all the feels: The good, the bad, and the ugly. <3

Thank you, Camilla Monk, for giving us March, Island, Angel (who'da thunk?), Joy (!), Phyllis, Stiles, Dries, and all the other crazy, scary, villainous, traitorous, or even just plain funny people who take up way more space in my head than any fictional character probably should.

I hadn't realized how much I missed these guys - I had a lot of fun reconnecting with Mia, Asher, Skylar, Colson, and - of course - "Smolder-Face" (aka the Dark Prince)... :)))
So far, this is my favorite book in the series, and not only because this is "Mia's book," where we finally learn more about her family and her history. I also appreciate Sean Fletcher's trademark blend of an action-packed plot, the highly entertaining banter between the friends, a bit of heartbreak and a little romance.
Can't wait for the next (final) book in the series!

Such a lovely, sweet story!

Like pretty much all the girls at Edenvale, my inner sixteen-year-old is totally crushing on Max. :D Having "met" him in previous books in the series, I was curious what his story was going to be like, and who would be the girl to capture his attention - and his heart.

It was so easy to fall in love with Angel (yep, Max, I totally get it!) and to root for her, feel her fears and her frustrations, but also swoon right along with her...

I loved seeing both Angel and Max work through some pretty serious issues - on their own, and together - and grow up quite a bit until they get their happy end.

Can't wait for the next book in the series!

"King of Really-Not-That-Bad" ;)

I've been looking forward to reading Maddox's story for a while now. He can be such an arrogant and cocky jerk (exhibits A - C: the other books in the series), but here we finally get to see the "real" Maddox behind all that swagger. And he's not such a bad guy, after all.

I'll admit had a bit of trouble believing in Cece being this business management prodigy - especially after learning about her being quite the spoiled brat before, with a track record of questionable choices. And her BFF comes across as a snooty brat, too. Sorry.

While this is not my favorite story in the series, it was fun to peek behind that bad-boy facade, and especially seeing the King of Snark getting teased mercilessly by his bandmates after falling for a special someone and developing... gulp... feelings. :)

You had me at gougères...
To be fair, the rest of the story is just as delectable as those French cheese puffs! I'm a sucker for a good second-chance romance, and Sarah and Beck had me rooting for them from the get-go. Plus, this prequel makes me want to read ALL the books in the series - but I especially want to know how that "French connection" turns out for Sarah's guinea-pig client! More, please!

Janet Elizabeth Henderson: Rich (Paperback, Janet Kortlever)

I've had a soft spot for prickly, standoffish Rachel for a long time, but now I've got a fully-developed, bona fide girl crush on this kicka$$ leading lady!

Patient, almost unflappable Harvard is her perfect counterpart, and I loved seeing him slowly, bit by bit, working his way behind Rachel's defenses.

While the story - like all Benson Security books - is dealing with some tough topics, I appreciate the way Janet Elizabeth Henderson handles the delicate balance between traumatic subject matter and her trademark humor.

If I had to pick a favorite scene, it would be Harvard taking Rachel Bachata dancing - the swoon is dialed up to 11, for sure!

It was fun to reconnect with the characters from "Playing the Field", namely Casey and Lucas, but also Alex and Grant, Coach Beeler, and a couple of others. Since I already liked both Casey and Lucas, it was really easy to root for them from the get-go. :)

A new addition to the cast is Archer, and I am very much looking forward to reading his story!

Sean Fletcher: Mage's Apprentice (Paperback, Sean Fletcher)

None

In Mage's Apprentice, Sean Fletcher introduces all sorts of supernatural and magical races, and we learn that there is generally no love lost between "supes" and "Norms". Enter Aspen, our Norm protagonist living in one of the magic boroughs of today's New York.

While some aspects of the story might seem overly familiar (orphan whose parents got murdered by a powerful wizard, half-giant best friend, ...), and there are many nods to other authors' works (hello, Charlotte!), Sean Fletcher provides his own spin on common tropes and delivers an entertaining tale.
As always, I enjoy his blend of action and humor, and not to forget a hefty dose of teenage shenanigans.

As is par for the course for his books (at least those I've read so far), things escalate quickly, everyone's lives are at stake, and Sean Fletcher won't let you forget it. Their fight to save supes and Norms …

What a cute story! I was already looking forward to reading Jade's story after meeting her in "The King of Nice", and I enjoyed it a lot. And if I hadn't been rooting for Austin from the get-go, he would have had me at: "I'll show you my Legos."
It was also fun to reconnect with the rest of the band, especially Maddox - well, his story is yet to come, and I'm looking forward to reading it, too... :)

I really liked Hadley in the first two books, so I was looking forward to reading her story and also - of course :) - curious about her personal hero. Spencer brings a lot of drama and angst to the table, so Hadley, with her positive and assertive personality, complements him well.
As is par for the course, the story is well written, and I enjoyed reconnecting with the "usual suspects" from the first two books: Charlotte and Jesse, Cassie, and especially Roman, who is definitely one of my favorite characters in the series.
It's "only" 4 stars for me, because the level of drama is just a bit too much for me, especially towards the end (was that really necessary?).
Not a spoiler, it has nothing to do with the storyline itself and as such is not relevant to the review, it's just a personal pet peeve of mine: …
