5/5 when-worlds-collide stars

I've been a fan of Lacy Andersen's YA romances for a while now, and My Royally Cute Enemy is no exception. I had so much fun with this snobbish prince and his less-than-impressed hostess. It was easy for me to fall in like not only with both August and Tori, but also with their friends and family, and I thoroughly enjoyed the banter, the budding friendship growing into more, the swoony first (and second, and third) kiss... happy sigh

Bonus points for the little nods to previous books (in the first Sweet Mountain High series).
Not to forget nostalgic bonus points for reminding me of times when we'd read alllll about the European royals in Grandma's magazines.

Jonathan Swift: Gulliver's travels into several remote regions of the world (EBook, 1899, H. Altemus)

A parody of traveler’s tales and a satire of human nature, “Gulliver’s Travels” is Jonathan …

Another visit to Dusky Cove, another murder...

Once more, my favorite part of the story is the banter between Ray and his Katie, how comfortable they are with each other, and how they take care of each other.
Though I'll admit that, this time, I struggled with the fact that the victim was someone I had gotten to know (and like) over the last couple of books.
But on the other hand, there was some progress on the storyline with Ray and Katie's grandson Shawn which leaves me cautiously hopeful for the next book(s).

I loved Annie and Emmitt, and I especially adored the three-men-and-a-teenager storyline. I was rooting for Annie to find her place, her posse, and - last but not least - "her" person, and I really liked how the everything came together at the end.

Looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

PSA: Make sure you have "Ex on the Beach" ready to go...

... if you haven't read it already. While I absolutely loved seeing more of Kim and Blake - especially seeing them fall in like, lust, and love - this prequel broke my heart into tiny little pieces and squished those into a mangled pulp for good measure. There may have been ugly-crying on my part (there totally was ugly-crying...), and it's a good thing I already knew going in that this wouldn't be the end of "Watterpless."

This is a quick and sweet read.

The blurb drew me in, but I was a bit disappointed that the battle over the taco truck in question was not much of one. First of all, I didn't understand Hadi's problem with it in the first place, and then the perceived problem got resolved super quickly.

Hadi generally has a tendency to make mountains out of molehills, and blows pretty much everly little conflict (if you can even call it that) way out of proportion. It seems Christopher is a way better and more patient person that I would have been in his situation. :)

Overall, I feel a little more history between Hadi and Christopher would have made their almsot insta-connection a bit more believable.

But the story had some funny and some swoony moments, and it made me smile.
Bonus points for the Star Wars reference. :)

Melissa Baldwin: On the Road to Love (Paperback, CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform)

None

I haven't had a chance to read all the stories yet, so here's my review for those I've read so far.

"Vision of Love" by Kathryn R. Biel.
What do you get when you put characters from two of my personal 5-stars-reads together, add in a healthy dose of "comedy of errors" and sprinkle some showbiz drama on top? Another 5-star-read that's a whole lot of fun - and has a happy end, of course!
I absolutely loved to see the worlds of The Edison and the Sassy Cats collide! Tabitha and Henderson were so easy to root for, and I enjoyed to reconnect with Grayson, Angie, and Sergei(!), as well.
More, please?

"A Very English Love Story" by Kate O'Keeffe
"Regency layers and Texas heat do not mix well."
Except, in this cute novella, they do. I already fell in serious like with too-nice-for-her-own-good "Disney Princess" Phoebe and her …

This book started out really funny! I also liked both Taylor and Onyx, and I loved their banter. (And let's not forget about that magic first kiss, right?)
But I'm sorry to say that some elements just fell flat for me. Comedy is always tricky, you can't meet every reader's sense of humor 100% all the time. I felt that some scenes were just added for their slapstick nature, but they did nothing to move the story forward.
I also wasn't a big fan of the bit of drama with Onyx's ex - and especially not of Dylan who kept acting like an immature jerk pretty much every time he turned up. Why is anyone even friends with the guy?

Annika Martin: The Billionaire's Wake-Up-Call Girl (Paperback, Carolyn Crane)

Billionaires of Manhattan Series. Book 2 When my manager assigns me the task of finding …

None

Disclaimer: I'm usually not a fan of "billionaire" books. But the blurb promised something more than the usual trope, and I was not disappointed.

The book was funny with plenty of laugh-out-loud (or snort-laugh) moments, hot, but also had an emotional depth I had not expected. Overall, I liked the characters, maybe Lizzie a bit more than Theo, and I appreciated the friendship Lizzie and Mia have.

One super minor thing that bugged me a bit is that Theo, apparent super genius, not for one single moment doubts that his wake-up-call girl must be young and attractive. I wonder how he'd reacted, if she'd turned out to be a sassy sixty-year-old grandma of twelve...

Christina Hovland: Blow Me Away (Paperback, Cherry Street Publishing)

None

Disclaimer: Over-the-top rom-coms are usually very hit-or-miss for me. But this one is a definite hit!

Though it's not the first in the series, this is the first book by this author I've read. And I want MOAR! Jase and Heather were easy to root for, and I love the crazy supporting cast of friends and family, though Jase's Babushka really takes the cake (cookie? steak?) on that one.

Smartypants Romance, Daisy Prescott: Stranger Ranger (Paperback, Smartypants Romance)

None

Daisy Prescott has a knack for writing quirky, endearing characters, and I really liked Daphne and Odin, plus,it was fun to (re)connect with the other rangers too.
I enjoyed the banter - both between the MCs, but also among the rangers - and some scenes had me grinning from ear to ear or even laughing out loud.

Looking forward to reading more books in this series!

As Wylder says of herself, she's an acquired taste. I only knew her as a troublemaker (from "Kissing the Debutant"), and frankly, reading about her shenanigans can be a bit exhausting.
But while this book is not really a romance (but hopefully the prelude to one), it is an entertaining read as we get to follow Wylder as she has some growing up to do when she finds that there's no easy way out of some quite uncomfortable situations. And that sure is fun to watch. :)

While it's not always easy for me to buy into the (almost-)everybody-loves-Wylder narrative (I may have to read alllll the other books for more backstory?), I love the supporting cast (Diego!), and how her friends always have Wylder's back.

This is the first book in a series and, as the blurb says, can not be read as a standalone. Well, technically, it can, …

So dang cute!

I've had a soft spot for Nolan ever since the very first Edenvale book, and I loved seeing him and his best friend Mimi finally getting together. Although I sometimes wished I could give them both a bit of a push. Sheesh!
But these two were seriously adorable (and occasionally cracked me up, too).

Coming from a very different cultural background, I found it interesting to see how their (part-)Chinese heritage played into the story.

4.5/5 totes adorbs stars

First things first: I reallyreally wanted to like this book. The cute cover drew me in, and I usually enjoy the whole tutoring-the-jock trope.

There were a couple of times when I almost DNFed, though.

The plot felt a bit too contrived, even for a tropey story like this. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against tropes. Some of my best friends (aka: favorite books) are extremely tropey. And yet...

The principal and coach blackmailing Wren into tutoring?
The tutoring must be kept a secret, because of team morale?
Fuller can't think of anything else but the stupid bet to keep the tutoring a secret?
And then, the grand gesture fell flat for me, especially the dressing-up-as-Westley thing that didn't bring much more to the table than an "As you wish." What would have been wrong with sticking to just one favorite movie and doing that right?
