A Wide-Ranging, Expert-Focused Collection
3 Sterne
This book is very much geared towards historians of pre-modern European medicine, with this academic collection going into deep detail on specific surgeons across Europe in the 15th to 18th century. As with most collections, there's not much connecting the different articles, and the focus varies significantly. I was really looking for more on technology development here, but the volume is mostly focused on the social nature of surgery and the diffusion of practices. There are some genuinely morbid chapters, so if graphic/heinous practices upset you make sure to skip part 3
