There are other books on the evolution of sex, gender, and mating, but few are so engagingly written and as of this writing none include the absolutely latest scientific research - this one does both. Lents traces the evolutionary history of these phenomena, using that history and a disarming, nearly preconception-free analysis to interrogate what these concepts mean across the animal kingdom and for humans in particular, stressing the need for that approach given the inherent distributional and categorical nature of sex, gender, mating, relationships, etc. The inclusion of a comprehensive reading list is icing on the cake. Highly recommend
