Two estranged sisters, one father accused of murder, zero time to catch up.

Ivy and Rose share only one thing: a father they don't know. Ivy, an on-leave FBI agent with a predilection for order, and Rose, a reformed hacker with a knack for chaos, are summoned to their father's private investigations office when he goes missing. The sisters come running and finally meet—over his assistant's corpse.

With their dad the number-one suspect in this brutal murder, Rose hatches a plan to pose as his partners. She and Ivy tackle a wealthy client's case in a small town with big secrets, all the while digging up dirt on the townspeople's ties to their father and his assistant's death.

Can these odd-couple sisters work two cases, or will one of them be next to disappear?

After having read Alicia Ellis’s YA sci-fi mystery series Flesh and Metal, I was looking forward to reading more of her mysteries, and the “Gray Girls” did not disappoint.

I found by-the-book Ivy and very-much-not-so Rose to be interesting and compelling main characters I enjoyed getting to know. More often than not, their strong personalities set them on a collision course, yet they turned out to be a formidable team whenever they managed to get over their various hangups and brought their respective strengths to bear.

I was a bit disappointed that their investigation of the mystery that brought the sisters together - the disappearance of their father - didn’t seem to make much progress. But since this is the first book in a series, I assume more pieces to that puzzzle will be revealed over the course of the following books.
